Interview for TVN24 "Straight from Poland"
|
After 43 days of travel, by bicycle 38 days, trip to Scandinavia ended with full success. We traveled 4,079km including 3,114km by bicycle. Our journey has been as follows.
We drove by car from Siedlce to Tallinn, then by ferry to Helsinki and here began our bicycle journey. Trough Lahti, Jyväskylä, Oulu, Kemi, Rovaniemi near the Arctic Circle we arrived to the Santa Clause village. After a visit with Santa Clause, who provided an unforgettable emotions (broken ice, flowing lava and magical atmosphere), went the whole back visiting the Finnish coast along the Baltic Sea trough Kemi, Oulu, Raahe, Kokkola, Vaasa, pori we arrived to Helsinki. From there we went by ferry to Tallinn and the Via Baltica route, driving further to the bicycle by Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, came to Siedlce in Poland.
Trip was very successful despite the frequent rain and difficult roads (very long and uphill roads). On our way we met many friendly people who offered us their assistance during the journey. Wherever we were, Paul was treated not like a disabled person but like a hero. As a result we were motivated to continue our journey, and we managed to achieve the destination. We showed that a disabled person is also a very valuable man. You can fulfill your dreams, even those that for a person with disabilities may seem unusual, impossible, such as bicycle trips.

Our, dad in particular, love of cycling began in the early 70's. He started to ride a bicycle "REKORD 10" - polish production. Next... you know - girls, J23 (polish film), second love (my mom), job, sons (me and my brother). Obligations did not allow the continuation of the first Dad love (bicycle). I remember my first "trip" with dad (850m) on a bike on four wheels from the park "Bazantarnia" in Elblag. Not often, but bicycles was accompanied in our life.
After the end of military career, my dad came back to cycling with me.
And so began the great adventure with our bicycles, which has been going on since the 90's. At the beginning of the "trips" was to the surrounding are (10-20km), and later were further.
Probably you ask: he describes bicycles but the photos are handbike, here is the answer: In 2004 has been seriously accident, which forced me to use a wheelchair... I thought that it was the end of the world!!! But I was wrong!!! If I can move on a wheelchair so why I couldn't move on handbike? Yes, I can!. Siedlce - friendly city!
Recently, a logo contest for the city of Siedlce won the project with the slogan: Siedlce - friendly city. It turns out that some terms are reflected in the fact! Such was the case after our meeting with the President of the City of Siedlce Wojciech Kudelski. On behalf of the City he has provided financial assistance in organizing our next trip. |
